The operating system of the computer classrooms is linux ** Ubuntu 12.04 32bit ** with ** LTSP ** system (Linux Terminal Server Project). \\

====== Authentication and Authorization ======


__ ** ATTENTION: FROM 12 OCTOBER 2015 CREDENTIALS OF THE UNIVERSITY (SOL) MUST BE USED. \\ COURSES STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT (Mathematics and Computer Science) MUST FIRST REGISTER AT [[#Laboratory Portal | LABORATORY PORTAL]] ** __ \\

// At the end of the registration procedure on the Laboratory portal the user will be active within 3 minutes .// \\ \\
Users who // are not students of Mathematics and Computer Science // do not have to register on the portal but go to the offices of the Laboratory. \\

The credentials of the Laboratory (yellow card) will continue to be valid for 2015 to allow the use of PCs to register on the portal.
Prints for this academic year are enabled only for University credentials. \\

To enter the system, the University credentials are used, hereinafter referred to as ** CREDENTIALS **. \\
Users operate with limited privileges. \\
Terminal authentication is not active, you can only use the system via the graphical console.
====== Laboratory Portal ======

The Laboratory portal is the website where the first registration to the Laboratory services is made and subsequently to check one's position.

====== Files and Software ======

==== Save the data ====
The user can save his data in the following directories and with the following policies:
  * /home (Home Directory): work file (300MB limit)
  * /tmp: use only for temporary system files on unix, linux default policy file.
  * /mnt/local: for large temporary files, fat filesystem readable and writable by anyone (5GB)
  * /cache: Here the .cache folder created in the users home is redirected, so as not to run out of home space with temporary files (200MB limit)
  * /mnt/localsoft///username///htdocs: apache root directory; to test your html or php files on the local apache server which responds to http://localhost. (20MB limit)
Personal files saved on the PC, except for /tmp and where not expressly indicated, are by default his property and cannot be accessed by other users.
==== Data persistence ====
The Home and all other directories where the user can save personal files __ ARE NOT PERSISTENT__, are deleted with these policies:
  * / tmp on every reboot
  * / cache, / mnt / localsoft, / mnt / local, / home, mysql database and postgresql: At the end of the day

For your personal files we recommend a USB stick or online services.

On the desktop there is a folder called LAB reserved for the system administrator, it is automatically recreated at each login \\
==== Server Software =====
In order not to occupy resources, some server software is disabled at startup. \\
For each one the procedure for starting and use / configuration is indicated:
  * __XAMPP__: Apache PHP MYSQL server. To manage the service use the '' super xampp '' command (e.g. '' super xampp start '' to start it). \\ The root directory of the Apache service is / mnt / localsoft /// ** username ** /// htdocs (replace // ** username ** // with the username you used to log into the system).
  * __Postgresql__: To manage the service use the super postgresql command (eg super postgresql start to start it).

====== Print ======
The default print queue is PRINTER-LAB-1 and prints come out of the SHARP printer located near the input port. \\
For each print job, the system requires CREDENTIALS (credential storage does not work). \\
To check the print queue on your computer click on the printer icon at the top right.
If the print status reports an authentication problem, right click on the queued file and select “re-authenticate”. \\
